Your work and our measurements are different things.

FretSteps works without an account. We use Cloudflare to serve the website and measure basic usage. This page describes the first public version, updated 13 September 2026.

Your work stays in your browser

Your practice history and missed positions are stored in your browser’s local storage. We do not receive your note-by-note answers or local progress. Use “Clear local progress” to remove the saved record. The optional tone is generated on the device; no microphone is used.

Traffic and performance measurements

Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page views, referrers, browser and device categories, geography and performance information. It is separate from the local tool data. Cloudflare also processes network information as our hosting provider. See Cloudflare Web Analytics and Cloudflare’s privacy policy for its practices.

Small aggregate event counters

We count a fixed set of actions such as opening the tool, completing a task, downloading an output and choosing a feedback category. Our application database stores only the website name, event category, UTC day and total count. We do not store names, subtitle text, filenames, IP addresses or browser identifiers in those counters. They measure events, not unique people. Our own automatic counters respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals; that does not describe the separate Cloudflare measurement system.

Storage and retention

The local practice record stays on this device until it is cleared and contains at most 100 completed sessions plus missed positions. Aggregate event rows are intended to be kept for up to twelve months and removed during maintenance. Downloads are under your control. This version does not contain advertising or sell collected data.

Feedback

The feedback page accepts fixed categories only. It does not collect a free-text message, contact details or attachments. Do not use it to send personal information. It provides anonymous product feedback, not a support inbox.
